Sonakshi Sinha addresses reports of father Shatrughan Sinha's discontent over her inter-faith marriage

Actress Sonakshi Sinha married her longtime boyfriend, actor Zaheer Iqbal, on June 23, 2024, in an intimate ceremony at her Mumbai apartment. The couple, who had been dating for seven years, registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act. Despite reports suggesting that Sonakshi's father, Shatrughan Sinha, was unhappy about the inter-faith marriage, the actress refuted these claims in an interview with The Times of India. Sonakshi emphasized that their differing faiths had never been an issue in their relationship, stating, "The only noise is from the outside, and we have learnt how to shut it out because it doesn’t matter. We are two people who love each other, and no one else has a say in it."

Addressing her father's reaction, Sonakshi revealed that Shatrughan Sinha, often perceived as strong, is actually a 'softie' and was emotional during the wedding. "He was standing right next to me, and I knew that he was feeling very emotional, so I held on to him and told him, don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere," she shared. Sonakshi also mentioned her mother, Poonam Sinha, got teary-eyed during the wedding, realizing her daughter would be moving out. Despite the changes, Sonakshi reassured that she and Zaheer frequently visit her parents, and her communication with her mother has increased, speaking to her at least twice a day.
